Virtual teams are handicapped by geographical distances when most people are accustomed to the team being at the same location or in the same room for team meetings. With the modern technology available, it is possible to “bring together” a team in different locations. However, merely having a video conference does not guarantee a high performing team.
Our strategic partner, Ord Elliott, describes the virtual home room for a team. The virtual home room features:
- It’s easy to enter
- Everyone is face to face
- Project information “papers” the walls
- Specific tools are used for problem solving and decision making
Developing the specific tools to improve the team’s effectiveness would require a systemic diagnosis of the team’s current organization and stakeholder needs and then a design of critical processes and systems to deliver what the stakeholders need.
